As part of Women’s History Month, the American Bookbinders Museum presents an exhibition featuring books and ephemera from the Museum’s collections, curated by Elspeth Olson, librarian and archivist at ABM. The exhibition offers looks at women in the binding trade, women and the rise of the bindery unions, and women.

The leather-work was chiefly confined to book-bindings and handy pocket-wares, but there was one handsome embossed panel for a firescreen, well framed in oak, by Maud Wheelwright; here the leather was richly toned, and the vigorous ship design harmonised pleasantly with the setting.

The lovely binding above is the work of Countess Eva Mannerheim Sparre (), who received a degree in wood sculpting and leatherwork from the Stockholm Technical School inand became the first person to teach leathercraft in Finland.
